Depression - Signs and Symptoms
Depression is not merely a feeling of sadness. In case you are feeling depressed and if anyone ever suggested that you have to get out of it, then you realize that this condition is usually misconstrued. People who are depressed are not merely sad about a particular event, such people feel gloomy all the time, and such instances could worsen it. In some cases, depression could be chemical and pass through generations in families. If no treatment is received, depressed people could develop suicidal thoughts and lose will to do any of the things they used to previously enjoy. With no treatment, depression could destroy lives.
The depression sign is not the same in every person, though there are some signs that are quite common in case of most people receiving this diagnosis. People suffering from depression find less happiness in the things they previously loved to do. Usually, rising from the bed each morning is difficult as is falling asleep. Some people could sleep most of the time. People who are depressed lose hope for everything and could cry quite easily. Such people could also complain of pains and body aches that seem to happen without reason. As the condition worsens, they are plagued by the feelings of being totally worthless and idea of suicide is common and very severe.
There are a few ways that provide a remedy to depression. Prescription medications are effective; however patients usually need to try different types of drugs at altered dosages before finding a medication that is effective for them. In case the depression is a result of chemical imbalance, there are medications that assist in correcting the imbalances. There are times when depression is a result of anxiety, stress or some other mental conditions. If this is the case, then the other conditions also required to be treated. A few patients may require more than one kind of medication. Some people prefer using natural supplements as the side effects are less. Usually, therapy is also helpful.
In case you think you are suffering from depression or that you know of someone who is suffering, it is essential to seek help. It could be difficult to assist a person who does not recognize that they are clinically depressed. But, you should try your best to make them realize that they are not what they perceive to be mad or crazy but are suffering from a medical condition and for which there are many options for treatment available. People who have been suffering from depression for a long time could have forgotten what their life was prior to depression and may have no desire to change. You should keep on making an effort till they realize that you care about them and do not wish to see them suffer in pain.
