Social Anxiety Disorder
Social anxiety disorder is also referred to as social phobia. It may not be possible to come across a lot of people facing this condition as they usually avoid social situations or may not leave their house unless completely required. People with social anxiety disorder are exceedingly stressful and anxious in social situations and keep away from them instead of dealing with the pain arising from these interactions. Basically, it is nothing but the fear of being judged or ridiculed social and public interactions. Also, a person suffering from social anxiety disorder might fear of having a panic attack in public, also referred to as agoraphobia.
Sometimes people who do not have social anxiety disorder could feel fear in new social situations. This is usually normal and is essential to make an effort to put us at our best. A few people are basically shy by nature but they learn to prevail over it and attend social situations even though they feel uneasy. Yet, for a few others, the fear is so devastating that they deal with it by avoiding social interactions completely. This extreme ways restricts the quality of life and leads to anxiety and loneliness. At times, social phobia causes panic disorder in case the person has to be present in a situation which makes them uncomfortable.
A lot people are concerned about what a new person they meet will think of them. But, people with social anxiety disorder agonize about such things fanatically. They could assume things such as everyone is staring at their nose, judging it to be big and ugly even though there is nothing wrong with their nose and nobody is paying attention to them. They could presume they chew their food oddly and avoid eating in front of a crowd. People suffering from social anxiety might, after eating, ensure that there is no food stuck in their teeth, even after checking they are certain that there is something stuck there and everyone else is laughing at them even though no one might even be looking at them.
The symptoms of this disorder might be the same of a person who is basically shy by nature. A person may presume that whatever they say is silly and they will not involve in any conversation. They remain quiet, blush quite easily, and might stammer very often in case they try to talk to a person whom they are not very well acquainted with. People with social phobia usually rehearse what they will say or do prior to facing a situation they cannot evade. They may perhaps practice walking as they believe they look comical, or take hours obsessing about what they will wear.
There are physical sensations that could arise with social anxiety disorder. Some of these are excessive sweating or trembling of the hands when facing social situations. People with such condition might have severe bouts of diarrhea when they imagine about interacting with other people. They may have confused thoughts, fast heart beat and shortness of breath. They may possibly have panic attacks and experience severe depression.
